June 2021- Public Opinion

Hypocrisy at its “Finest”?"

During the public comments section of the June 21, 2021 Board of Commissioners’ (BOC's) meeting, Dr Pamela Senegal finished her comments with a quote that I will paraphrase: ‘great minds talk of ideas, medium minds talk about events, and small minds talk about people’. She left no uncertainty about what people she was talking about.
Dr. Senegal was immediately followed by Anderson Clayton, who introduced herself as the new chairperson of the Person County Democrats. Anderson immediately started talking about one of the commissioners, Charlie Palmer, while intentionally leaving out important contextual information (that these were private emails between like minded individuals pertaining to problems brought to them regarding PCC). Interestingly, she read from the Apostle Paul’s letter to Titus at the BOC meeting.
For context, Paul sent Titus to Crete to spread the gospel, and establish churches (like missionaries today). Ms Clayton read the first seven verses, though in her introduction she referred to all 15 Bible verses in the chapter.
Verse 1: “Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed” - just like she (and her party) was toward President Donald J Trump, I suppose."
Verse 2: “… to malign no one, to be uncontentious, gentle, showing every consideration for all men” - just like she (and her party) was toward President Donald J Trump, I suppose.
Verses 3 -8 speak of the change that takes place in all true Christians when they put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. This is what she tried to hit him over the head with … she attacked Charlie’s Christian faith, even while he was trying to fulfill verse 8, where it says “… be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men”. He was trying to verify allegations of wrong-doing that have affected our entire community.
Interestingly, she did not read verses 9 -11, where Paul warns them to watch out for foolish controversies and factious people … who are ‘perverted and sinning, being self-condemned’. I wonder why?"
Verses 12 - 15 are Paul’s personal comments to Titus to close the letter. To paraphrase, they say that people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. This young woman represents the Democrat party - the party of racism, radical agendas, baseless allegations, character assassination, division, unprofessionalism, etc. Interestingly, these are the exact same things that she accused Charlie of ….
In addition, the Democratic party is pro-abortion, infanticide, lawlessness, etc. As I have said for the past 20 years, “if you want to know what the Democrats are up to, just listen to what they accuse others of doing - because that’s exactly what they are doing themselves! This is more proof of that!
And so, now I am also guilty of ‘talking about people’.  This is an accusation without end!
Where is the line of demarkation between when it is good, or when it is bad to speak about others? To me, the answer is in your motivation. For instance, is Dr Senegal doing it to protect her good name, or to deflect facts that could hurt her career? Is Anderson Clayton providing a service to the community, or (as she said) is it ‘to bring balance’ to our board of commissioners - and status in her new position? Am I doing it to protect a newfound friend, my home town of 30 years, the truth in an age of media lies, or because I just love to waste hours writing stu? It’s definitely not the last one, but time will tell with all of the others.
