Why I Am Running for NC Senate District 23     2026-June-7     By: Laura Pichardo

When I decided to run for North Carolina Senate District 23, it was not because politics was easy or glamorous. I decided to run because I love our counties. I believe the people of Person, Caswell, and Orange Counties deserve a voice that understands how much we work to take care of our families, properties, and our communities.

Like many North Carolinians, I have watched hardworking people struggle under rising costs, higher property taxes, inflation, and uncertainty about the future. Families are working to make the most out of their budgets, homeowners are upset about property taxes being raised, and young people are wondering if they will ever have an affordable future.

I feel frustrated when people feel that their concerns are ignored. Too many families feel like elected officials only listen to powerful voices instead of the people they were elected to represent. Many people are juggling their responsibilities to provide for their children, care for their aging parents, or to keep their small businesses alive. I understand the importance of the sacrifices people make every day to take care of their families while adjusting to the rising costs.

Since I was young, I have had to speak up for my parents, coworkers, or our community. I believe I am the leader that will speak up for our district. I believe people should be able to keep more of the money they earn. I believe parents should have a voice in their children’s education. I believe our law enforcement officers deserve support and respect. I believe rural communities deserve access to quality healthcare and mental health services close to home. I believe we can accomplish great things if we budget appropriately.

Throughout this campaign, I have met incredible people across Person, Caswell, and Orange Counties. I have spoken with farmers worried about protecting their land, parents concerned about their children’s future, workers trying to keep up with inflation, and the concerns about affordability. OUR stories matter, and they deserve someone willing to fight for them in Raleigh.

This campaign is about making sure our communities are not forgotten. It is about protecting the values that make North Carolina strong: hard work, personal responsibility, family, faith, freedom, and economic opportunity.

I know the road ahead will not always be easy, but I believe our district is filled with resilient people who care deeply about the future of our communities. I am running because I believe we can create a stronger future together—one where families can afford to live, businesses can grow, and future generations can thrive, and seniors can retire with dignity.

I would be honored to earn your vote, your prayers, and your trust as your next North Carolina Senator for District 23.
