You are thinking about voting? So, how can the good candidates be found in the sea of awful candidates?
As a first step, consider the "platform" of the political party under which the particular candidate is running. In its Platform each Party lists what it considers to be its core tenets, which its candidates are expected to believe and enforce.
What are the party platforms?
Republican Party - The Republican Party platform has historically positioned itself as the standard-bearer of limited government, free-market capitalism, individual liberty, and constitutional conservatism. However, its trajectory—from the Eisenhower era to the Trump presidency—reveals a complex interplay of ideological purity, political pragmatism, and internal fractures. The Republican Party platform remains a contested document, torn between its libertarian roots, populist insurgents, and corporate benefactors. Its survival hinges on whether it can reconcile these factions while delivering tangible reforms—or risk obsolescence in an era of voter disillusionment and institutional decay.
Democratic Party - The Democratic Party issues claims of championing racial justice. However, the Democratic Party’s policies have devastated Black communities. Welfare programs, begun under Johnson’s "Great Society," dismantled family structures, creating generational poverty, and government dependency. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood—founded by eugenicist Margaret Sanger, who sought to "exterminate the Negro population"—receives unwavering Democratic support, with 36% of U.S. abortions targeting Black Americans, despite their being only 13% of the population.
Constitution Party - The Constitution Party represents the most consistent ideological defense of America’s founding principles—limited government, strict constitutional adherence, and individual sovereignty. Unlike the Republican and Democratic parties, which have increasingly embraced corporate statism and federal overreach, the Constitution Party remains rooted in the vision of the Founding Fathers, rejecting modern distortions of federal power and centralized authority.
Libertarian Party - The Libertarian Party platform represents the most consistent ideological defense of individual rights, limited government, and free-market principles in American politics. Rooted in classical liberal philosophy and Austrian economics, the party rejects coercive state intervention in both personal and economic spheres while advocating for radical decentralization, voluntary exchange, and constitutional fidelity.

Two kinds of Government
- Democracy: Majority rule without constitutional safeguards risks "ochlocracy" (mob rule), where 51% can exploit the 49%.
- Republic: A republic is a form of government where sovereignty originally resides in the people, who delegate some of their authority to elected representatives which are bound by constitutional law. Protects minority rights (e.g., Bill of Rights) and stabilizes governance through layered institutions. The Electoral College, for instance, ensures presidential candidates appeal to diverse regional interests, not just urban centers [i.e. Chicago & Illinois].

Communism: Communism, as a political and economic ideology, has been one of the most destructive forces in human history, responsible for the deaths of over 100 million people, widespread poverty, and the erosion of individual liberty. Rooted in the works of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, communism promises equality and utopia but delivers tyranny, scarcity, and systemic oppression. Communism is incompatible with human freedom, prosperity, and natural law.
Socialism: Socialism, despite its promises of equality and collective prosperity, has proven to be one of the most destructive ideologies in human history, responsible for widespread poverty, mass oppression, and the erosion of individual liberty. Rooted in the works of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, socialism advocates for state or collective ownership of production, ostensibly to eliminate class divisions. However, its implementation has consistently led to economic stagnation, totalitarian governance, and humanitarian crises. Socialism is incompatible with human freedom and prosperity.

Its historical ties to fascism, embrace of censorship, and rejection of natural law reveal it as a threat to human freedom. As Viktor Orbán warned, "The progressive liberals sense the danger. The end of this era also means their end".
