My name is Jason "Skeet" Wilborn, and I am honored to serve as the elected Sheriff of Person County. Born and raised in Roxboro, North Carolina, I have dedicated my career to protecting and serving the citizens of the community I proudly call home. I graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training in 1999 and have spent more than 27 years serving in law enforcement.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to serve in a wide range of assignments that have provided me with valuable experience in every aspect of public safety. My law enforcement journey has included serving as a Police Officer, Deputy Sheriff, Narcotics Investigator, Criminal Investigator, Sergeant Investigator, Patrol Sergeant, Administrative Captain, Major overseeing daily operations, Chief Deputy, and now Sheriff. Each position has strengthened my understanding of the responsibilities required to lead a professional, accountable, and community-focused law enforcement agency.
As Sheriff of Person County, I am responsible for the overall leadership and administration of the Sheriff's Office. This includes overseeing law enforcement operations, criminal investigations, patrol services, detention operations, court security, civil process, communications, emergency preparedness, budgeting, personnel management, policy development, and strategic planning. I work closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, county leadership, first responders, schools, businesses, and community organizations to ensure we provide the highest level of public safety while maintaining transparency and accountability.
One of my greatest priorities is investing in the men and women who serve our community. I am committed to providing our deputies, detention officers, and telecommunicators with the training, equipment, and leadership they need to perform their duties safely and effectively. I also believe that strong relationships with our citizens are essential to successful policing. By promoting community engagement, open communication, and proactive crime prevention, we strive to build trust and partnerships that make Person County a safer place to live, work, and raise a family.
Professional development has always been an important part of my career. I have completed extensive advanced training and earned certifications as a North Carolina General Instructor, North Carolina Specialized Firearms Instructor, North Carolina Concealed Carry Handgun Instructor, and Active Shooter/Rapid Response Instructor for private citizens. These certifications have allowed me to train both law enforcement officers and members of our community in critical areas of public safety and emergency preparedness.
Serving as Sheriff is more than a profession—it is a commitment to the people of Person County. Every decision I make is guided by integrity, professionalism, accountability, and a genuine desire to serve others. I am proud to lead an agency that is dedicated to protecting our community, supporting victims, enforcing the law fairly and impartially, and working each day to improve the quality of life for all who call Person County home.
