Person County Board of Commissioners
Charlie Palmer
Charlie Palmer and his family have strong ties to Person County. His family has been in Person County for many generations. He is the owner of a local successful plumbing business and has focused on providing service and community support during the past years. Charlie provides a strong and capable persona of someone who gets the job done. His experience lends an important strength in providing needed business growth and support to Person County. Upon election Charlie intends to:
- Focus on needed county business development
- Review county government departments and work towards improved efficiencies to end bureaucratic waste
- Support our first responders during these times of uncertainty
- Respond actively to the citizens of this county
Charlie lives in Roxboro with his family and wishes to be a strong voice for county residents while providing job growth for area residents.
Gordon Powell
Commissioner Gordon Powell is running for reelection for Person County Commissioner. As someone who grew up in Roxboro, Gordon has worked as an active supporter of Person County. He was an educator for over 20 years, after which he sought election as a representative on the Person County School Board in 2004. He served several terms on the School Board before seeking election for the County Commissioner. Gordon is a strong proponent of education initiatives and workforce development. He supports and wants to continue working for:
- County economic development and existing county business
- County wide BROADBAND Initiative
- Law enforcement and all first responders
- Technical and workforce development programs
- Improved cooperation and efficiencies between the City of Roxboro and the County
Gordon lives in Roxboro with his wife and enjoys spending time with his family and vacationing at the beach.
Derrick Sims
Commissioner Derrick Sims was appointed to the Board of County Commissioners in April of this year. He has been an active resident and volunteer in Person County. Derrick has served as Chairman of the Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce; he is an active member in the local Elks lodge helping to serve and support the community. Mr. Sims has served as the Executive Secretary of the Economic Development Commission, Chairman of the Kerr-Tar Workforce Development Board and President of the Uptown Roxboro Group, just to name a few. He is a strong supporter of:
- Continuation of current county Landfill Contracts
- Our First Responders; Fire and Police Departments and Health Care Workers
- Post-Secondary Education opportunities and Workforce Development for our citizens
- The Reduction of County Government Waste
- Positive and improved Economic Development for Person County
Derrick currently works as an Environment Health Safety Manager for U.S. Flu-Cured Tobacco Growers, Inc. He and his family live in the Timberlake area of Person County. When not volunteering he enjoys travel, the people of Person County and spending time with his family.
Person County Board of Commissioners - Unexpired term
PJ Gentry
PJ Gentry has a strong drive to support Person County residents. She has worked in various business fields and maintains a strong business profile. Considered a leader in the Triangle area of real estate she is a Broker-In-Charge handling complex transactions. PJ is extremely competent and will work in a manner that is inclusive providing creativity to solving difficult problems now facing the county. She is currently Chair of the Person County Board of Adjustments and a strong voice and supporter in the local Republican party where she has served on the Executive Committee. If elected PJ intends to work on matters of:
- Economic development and promoting county pride
- Reducing government waste
- Supporting our first responders
- Developing education and work force initiatives
- Improved leadership representation and responsiveness to county residents
PJ currently lives in Hurdle Mills with her husband. She and her husband enjoy spending time with their sons and extended family.
